Fin Healy 'yet it moves' EP launch w/ Local Woman, Sia Ahmad & Alex Macfarlane

Fin Healy’s debut EP “yet it moves” (Hobbies Galore, forthcoming) was recorded and assembled over the course of 2022. Aside from the bell-like sounds of three house keys colliding on “stasis,” the EP is performed entirely by electric guitar and mandola. Though rockisms crop up occasionally—in the Verlaine-tinged histrionics of “stasis” or the Reich-via-Fripp riffs on “invariance”—Healy’s guitars tend to avoid distortion and song forms. Instead, the sonic qualities of electric guitar have space to breathe as harmonic changes gradually unfold within repetition.
The predominance of open strings, harmonics and arpeggiation invoke the influence of various 20th century composers and improvisers working with the instrument. Despite the occasional addition of music concrete techniques, “yet it moves” is an unashamed embrace of and contribution to “guitar music” in its many forms. For the launch she is joined by Asher Elazary to present the EP as a guitar duo.
Joined also by Local Woman, Sia Ahmad, and improv ambience and loops between sets from Alex Macfarlane.
